Fort Portal – Kyaninga Lodge
I took lots of photos in Fort Portal. Of course I do not want to withhold any of those photos from you. So here we go with the next post and photos, this time about the famous Kyaninga Lodge at one of the crater lakes in Fort Portal.
Kyaninga Lodge – Search for it at Google and it will be one of the first hits showcased by famous travel websites like tripadvisor with best ratings. And it’s true: with its tremendous and stunning views, with its extraordinary accomodation and its great service, Kyaninga seems to be one of the most exclusive lodges in Uganda. BUT: waaaaaay too expensive for me

Fort Portal – Tooro Botanical Gardens
Spending some time in the region of Fort Portal, I visited ‘Tooro Botanical Gardens’ which are showcasing and conserving a diverse living plant collection from the Albertine Rift region of Uganda. TBG describes itself as followed:
This wonderful public garden is a unique environment where a variety of flowers, medicinal plants vegetables and fruits are grown. It is a magical place to wander around, taste locally grown fruits and vegetables and get to know the rich biodiversity of the region. Especially birds find a favourable environment here. … Weiterlesen →
Breakdance Project Uganda or: ‘Bouncing Cats’
UNITING THE CHILDREN OF UGANDA THROUGH BREAKDANCE AND HIP HOP CULTURE
Another really nice project was brought to my attention in the last weeks while I was frequently visiting a good friend of mine here in Kampala. She is staying together with Abramz, a break dancer and singer whom I got to know as a really sympathetic and pleasant person showing not the slightest sign of arrogance. He has the vision to promote positive social change and social responsibility through breakdance and hip hop. That is why he founded the Breakdance Project Uganda. … Weiterlesen →
Gaddafi Mosque
The Uganda Moslem Supreme Council Mosque – also known as Gaddafi Mosque - is the largest mosque in Uganda with a seating capacity of 15,000. Located on Old Kampala hill, it is shaping the skyline of the eastern part of Kampala city. With its Minaret Tower on top of the hill, the Mosque is not only a place for Muslims but also a tourist attraction. So we lately visited the Mosque paying 10000 UGX, equipped with my Lumix GF2 and my Leica Lens to catch some magnificent views … Weiterlesen →
Twenty years from now
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
Lately it’s been quiet on my blog and there’s exactly one reason for it: Christmas time! For the work at J.E.E.P. it means not really a lot of things to do as everybody is preparing to go out of Kampala to their homes in the different regions of Uganda. And for the Christmas time in general there should be at least something to write over here in the capital of Uganda, BUT: it is not.
In a country with about 85% being Christian one should assume that there is a lot of celebration going on. People prepare for the day of the days, the birthday of Jesus Christ, decorating the streets, houses, Christmas trees..They come together for the truly quiet, calm and sensual Christmas time…And that is exactly what is NOT happening. Believe me. If it is Christmas or not. You wont even see a difference! Kampala just did not change at all and the only things about Christmas you will find here are in the large supermarkets in town. No change on the streets, no special lights and decoration…And not that I hate it: IT IS PERFECT GUYS
And because of what? Ugandans are just looking forward to the holy eve with a REAL Christmas not being commercialized yet.
As from tomorrow, our NGO is in vacation. That means for me: TRAVELLING WOOOHOO! I will go to Fort Portal to visit another German volunteer and have a great time at the crater lakes over there. Will be lovely! That does mean at the same time that I wont be able to write any blogposts for you over Christmas and New Years Eve but anyway: I will collect a whole bunch of new photos for you guys and bring some new stories from the wonderful country of Uganda!
So..for now…MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!
